Reviews

This is a great collection of Cranach paintings and if you are fan of his, you will like being able to page through this collection on your kindle much the way you would a coffee table book. And it is a better collection than I have ever attained doing a Google or Bing Search. That is, however, all this is. And that is frustrating. The book description says there are "interesting notes and facts on the page below". I failed to see any. The paintings are not even titled. There are no dates as to when what was painted. There is no biography of Cranach the Elder attached. What you are left with is merely a collection of paintings. What this book has going for it is that the paintings are by one of the greatest painters of all time and the pictures of these paintings are done really well, with nice resolution. Most who are familiar with Cranach will know what most of the paintings are about. But if you want to become familiar with Cranach this isn't the book, for that I would recommend The Serpent and the Lamb: Cranach, Luther, and the Making of the Reformation. Then get this book if you want to see more pictures of his paintings. It's a real shame though that this book does not in fact have more to offer. The pictures are of such great quality that the lack of text is just frustrating.
